Hey everyone,

On this past week’s episode of Dark Matters: Space in your Face, I mentioned that I would be posting a link to my blog which contains an article on Ursula K. LeGuin’s The Dispossessed. I’m sure many of you are familiar with it as it is a heavy hitter in the world of Sci-Fi literature.

Several people tend to argue that the core of SF is philosophical and that character psychology becomes secondary.  While such a claim may be true for some, if not most SF texts, I argue that the individual character lies at the heart of LeGuin’s work.  I also argue that the “ethics” or “psychology” that lies behind the protagonist, Shevek, is one of difference and an openness to alterity.
