So, I’m going to post all of our recordings that have taken place since the last time I blogged. Some of them are parents weekend and NOT friendly folk, and last week Nathan was friendly enough to cover the shift while I was attending MacRock. Stay tuned for Prince Rama, who played there and was *awesome*.

Friendly Folk #17

Last week was Seize the Airwaves, so there was no friendly folk! We missed y’all so much! To make up for it though, we’ve got some special folky specials!

WUOG interviewed Akron/Family the day before their show at the 40 Watt.

Also, Jason played a special set highlighting MV&EE who is Matt “MV” Valentine and his partner Erika “EE” Elder. The recording starts, already in progress, with The Tower Recordings and progresses through time to the most recent MV&EE work, Barn Nova. The sound is emblematic of the new weird america movement which is a heavy drone/reverb/lo-fi recording style.

Finally, our 17th episode of Friendly Folk focuses artists playing at the Harvest of Hope festival, March 12-14 in St. Augustine, Florida during Nathan’s set. Jason’s set features freak folk bands with either female vocalists or members.

This episode of Friendly Folk features Tom Waits, Eels and Paul Baribeau. Paul Baribeau will be playing at the Harvest of Hope festival as well as other artists that are frequently features on this show. Jason plays some artists new to the show including GHQ, Ghost and the Tower Recordings.

Skip ahead 7minutes to hear the beginning of the set, we were off air for a minute. Also, I believe the end of the show cuts off as well. Sorry y’all!

There was a little bit of confusion this week – Nathan and I actually started Deejaying earlier than normal. We forgot to change playlists from the previous deejay, so here’s a link to this week’s playlist. It starts with Sue Jorge.

If you have something special you’d like to hear on next week’s show, send us an email at friendlyfolk at wuog dot org.

We’re looking forward to bringing you more unique contemporary folk music next week, so stay tuned.

Nate and Jason play the best in contemporary folk music. This week Jeffery Lewis talks about LSD, Animal Collective has a purple bottle, and Akron / Family is looking for space in this realm.

If you have any request, give us a comment right’ere.
