HHHS 6-26-09: Remember The Times

This week has been a bit bittersweet. Sweet that it’s officially ATHFest Weekend 2009 so the Classic City’s music scene is gonna be well represented, but bitter because so much has gone on starting with the burning of the GA Theatre, followed by the passings of major figures in the entertainment industry, most notably, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. His untimely death was  a complete shock to the world and a major blow for the music industry. A true talent and a straight genius taken away way too soon, but his legacy and influence will live on through the music. That’s why we did a special edition of The Starting Line Up Countdown counting down some of the best hip hop records that sampled the “Gloved One.” Also, a new installment of “Diamonds in the Rough,” the Halftime Hip Hop Mixtape, plus some new music from the Wu’s upcoming project. All that and more in this week’s show. Next week, the one and only Nasaya will be making her return to the HHHS to talk abou her upcoming projects, plus who knows what to expect. But in the meantime, stand strong my people, and enjoy the weekend. One Love!!

HHHS 6-19-09: The Show Must Go On!!

Jun 19 2009 10:58 pm

Fridays are always a time for celebration and anticipation of the weekend but this Friday will always go down in history as the day that the Classic City stood still in shock and disappointment. The Georgia Theatre, which has been the historic venue for both iconic and upcoming musicians, was ablaze early Friday morning. With flames at the roof of the building rising as high as 40-50 feet in the air, the roof collapsed, and years of memorable moments are just that, memories. The cause of the fire is unknown, but the owner has made it clear that he intends to rebuild the venue, but we all know that it won’t exactly be the same. On the behalf of everyone here at WUOG 90.5FM, we would like to send our love and prayers to everyone that was a part of Georgia Theatre both past and present and hopefully the future. Thankfully, no one was in the building when the fire started, but as the old saying goes, the show must go on, and the best thing to help soothe the soul is music. This week’s show featured new music from Slaughterhouse, Camp Lo, another installment of both Diamonds in the Rough and the Halftime Hip Hop Mixtape, plus special guest Profound Breadth of Black Rose Dynasty comes through to talk about his upcoming return show on the 4th of July at the 40 Watt. On the Starting Line Up Countdown, there is a guaranteed new #1, who that is? You gotta tune in and hear for yourself all this and more. Plus, huge shout-out to all the fathers out there (and yes even the stepdaddies). Classic City, keep ya head up this weekend, we will get through this as a family!! One Love!!

HHHS: 6-5-09 It’s a Celebration!!

It’s a bit hard to believe that it’s been one year since I’ve been back hosting the HHHS and even harder to believe that I’ve been with WUOG for 4 years now. So much has gone on in that span of time, both good and bad, but I don’t regret any of it because all of it brought me to where I am now, and the show to where it is now. This week’s episode features a slew of new music on Diamonds in the Rough, an interview with HHHS/CITL Alum Nobody Famous, some exclusives including the announcement of Crunk in the Lobby X: The Last Stand (Aug. 14th), and yes even Giovonni Pratt returned to hold things down with me. All that and more that you really have no choice but to hit that play button to find out. Quick programming note, the HHHS will be back at its original time slot of 9PM next Friday (June 12th). In the meantime, enjoy and have a beautiful weekend.

Due to an unexpected schedule conflict, the huge 6-hour show didn’t happen this past Friday, but big ups to Tunde for spinning the records and keeping things fresh that night. But, if I couldn’t do it on my normal day, I could sho’nuff end the month with a special 3-hour edition of the show. And hear you have it ladies and gents. This episode features a lot of new heat from the likes of Nobody Famous, Charles Hamiltion, Mickey Factz and more, as well as a new installment of “Diamonds in the Rough” Also, tune in THIS FRIDAY for a special 5-hour show. This weekend will mark 1 year since I’ve returned to do the HHHS, and I want to do something special for all of you listeners. Some huge announcements will be made on that show as well as some more new heat that I wanted to save for that occassion. But in the meantime, enjoy the Sunday Night Heat special and have a great week!! One Love
