It’s been a long time coming, and it was originally supposed to be a Christmas gift for all of you, but Mama BlacqueStarr really wanted me to stay home. And what kind of son would I be if I said no? Haha, but nonetheless, on behalf of the WU and the HHHS, hope you all a safe and joyous holiday and spent time with those that you care about the most. So, call this a belated Christmas gift to end the year 2009 the right way. The last Graffiti Session of the year, The Collision Course is ready for your streaming pleasure. Close to 7 hours of music kicking things off with the Prelude featuring The Billy D. Williams/Don Cornelius of the WU DJ S.O.S. (including a sneak peak of the new J-Pop show “Beasts from the East”), and going straight into The Collision Course featuring RedKlay, Haziq Ali, Smiley Da Crookit Letta, The Doll Daze, Profound Breadth, Molly B., C’Beyohn, GWAM, Nobody Famous, Lucky Luchianno, Cry Me a Liver, and last but not least Richelle L. Brown. And to make it easier, you can listen to it in 4 ways. You have the entire show as well as just the Prelude, and Pt. 1 and 2 of Collision Course live performances to stream. Major props, love and respect to all the performers, listeners, DJ S.O.S. & Nakeem, for holding things down.

That only leaves the official Halftime Hip Hop Yearbook: Best of 2009 going down tomorrow night starting at 6PM. We will be counting the top 50 artists that made noise on the HHHS this year plus some extra goodies and guests that you gotta tune in to find out. We’re ending the first decade of the 21st century the proper way, so while you’re getting your celebration on, the WU’s urban music institution will be back in full session for your aural pleasure. Til tomorrow, One Love!!

Word to the Isleys Bros. It may have been a dark and chilly night in the Classic City, but we definitely supplied the heat with mounds of premieres  from Kidz in the Hall, Statik Selektah featuring the Return of Bahamadia, AZ, Novel & Joell Ortiz, Sade, Wu Massacre, and much more. And to boot, a new installment of Diamonds in the Rough, The Starting Line Up Countdown, and of course a live Halftime Hip Hop Mixtape featuring one of the Classic City’s most diverse deejays, DJ Other Voices, Other Rooms. So if you’re looking for a break from studying for your last finals, then go right ahead and hit play.

The Graffiti Sessions Vol. 3: The Nu World Order Has Risen!!

Dec 06 2009 10:23 am

No disrespect to the Glory Days of the WCW (which I personally was a fan of), but a true “Nu World Order” came together with the third installment of the “Graffiti Sessions” featuring performances from artists have NEVER performed in Athens as well as NEVER performed on the WUOG airwaves. We got a chance to witness a little bit of different flavors with D-Chase bringing some rock flava to the mix, the youngblood nNo pulling out the fans to keep things at a manageable temperature because of the heat, ATL’s own-by-way-of-Kosovo, The Street Poets spitting passionate rhymes about the grind as well as the legendary Spyder D checking in with the co-sign, and last but not least, L-Boogie-in-Wondaland, Loren Moore rounding out the crew with his sultry vocals accompanied with both GWAM and TwentyOne. This installment confirmed what most people have been saying since the inception of the New Administration of the HHHS back in 2006, that both WUOG and HHHS is the premiere haven to help push the upcoming and passionate artists (no matter which genre, age, or origin) to the next level, and we don’t plan on letting up on that intention anytime soon. If Vol. 3 confirmed it, then Vol. 4 will solidify it.

The final stop of 2009 is “The Collision Course” featuring a multitude of artists all coming together in one building with one goal: deliver a live radio production like no other, possibly even surpassing CITL X: The Last Stand, as great as that event was and still is. The line-up will be revealed sooner than you think, but in the meantime enjoy Vol. 3, and as a bonus, we have the interview with certified “Diamonds in the Rough” artist Gramatik that took place this past Thursday here at the WU. Til next time…One Love!!
