Not Miss Cleo, But Here Is the Future!!

2010 marks a couple milestones (5 YEARS at the WU and 4 YEARS hosting the HHHS), so the empire state of mind is to make this the best year ever for the HHHS and the WU. How is that gonna happen? So glad that you asked!! As mentioned on last Friday’s show (which you can check out as well – plug of shamelessness I know) below is the official list of all the upcoming events that are in place for this Spring Semester on the HHHS with a brief description of each so here we go:

FEBRUARY 26TH, 2010 – The Graffiti Sessions Vol. 5: Nu World Order Pt. 2 - The first G.S. of the new year and, like the inaugural N.W.O., Pt. 2 will feature artists that have NEVER performed in Athens and/or on our WUOG Airwaves

MARCH 19TH, 2010 – The Graffiti Sessions Vol. 6: Feminenergy, Ladies First – In honor of Women’s History Month, this installment will feature a 100% all female line-up from all of walks of the musical spectrum to deliver an aural tribute to the WOMAN!!

APRIL 9TH, 2010 – T.R.I.N.I.T.E.E. Vol. 5: The Red Light Special – The HHHS’s original live trifecta of poetry, spoken word, and lyrical testimony, T.R.I.N.I.T.E.E. (The wRitings of Inner Non-Institutionalized Thoughts and Evolving Emotions) returns for a fifth time and as the subtitle suggests, it will be as smooth and delectable as red velvet with some sensuous R&B/soul on the side.

APRIL 16TH, 2010 – The Graffiti Sessions Vol. 7: iDJ – Calling all DJs!! Calling all DJs!! This G.S. is especially for you. We all know that the DJ is and forever will be a focal part of the urban music culture, but there have been some comments made saying that the art of the DJ is dead. Well, like one of my influences DJ Greg Street, I very much disagree with that statement, and to make an empathetical point that the DJ is alive and well, I’m envisioning at least 5 DJs (regardless if you use vinyl, CDs, samplers, MP3s, 8-tracks, or all of the above) all in a circle in our lobby for a non-stop live DJ cypher on the WU’s airwaves.

APRIL 30TH, 2010 – The Collision Course II – The last Graffiti Session of Spring Semester (say awwwww…), but like the original Collision Course back in December, the goal is to have a diversity of musical elements (hip hop, jazz, reggae, metal, punk, etc.) all coming together in one spot, to paint an aural work of art that only the WU and the HHHS can bring to the masses.

And there you have it. So, now that you know what the HHHS got going this time around well in advance, you can mark your calendars earrrlllyyyy…, but it should be mentioned there are a few dates where the HHHS may/may not be on the air due to the events that WUOG may have going on or holiday breaks, which is all well and good, but as a common courtesy to you all that if you don’t hear the HHHS on Friday night, you won’t be like What the fuunnnnnnkkkkk?! Hahah:

FEBRUARY 19TH-21ST – SEIZE THE AIRWAVES – All weekend long, people in the community and on-campus have the opportunity to donate $10 for a great cause (Interfaith Hospitality Network of Athens, GA) and to DJ on our airwaves and play WHATEVER you like (or tell jokes, read poetry, whatever tickles your fancy). Interested or need more info? Head over to wuog.org/public-affairs/seize-the-airwaves

MARCH 6TH-MARCH-14TH – Spring Break Radio 2010 – WUOG’s Regular Programming will be out the window and DJs can come through and play whatever they want (within philosophy) for however long they want.

MARCH 26TH-28TH – Parents Weekend 2010 – This weekend is dedicated to the lovely people that brought us into this world (and claim they can take us out too at times haha), our parents will be accompanying the DJs, so it could be possible that you will hear the debut of Mamma BlacqueStarr…have to find out and see…

Jan 22 2010 11:43 pm

For the first time in recent memory, the WU, (WUOG 90.5FM) had split programming with two broadcasts going on simultaneously. With our radio airwaves broadcasting the “Hope for Haiti” telethon featuring a who’s who in television, movies, politics, and music, from 8PM-10PM, the online listeners were able to hear this week’s show in its entirety with the radio listeners catching up an hour later. But do not fret, loyal radio listeners, you are able to catch the ENTIRE show right here as promised. This week featured another new installment of “Diamonds in the Rough,” as well as HHHS premieres from the likes of Jay Electronica, The WU, Distant Relatives (Damian Marley & Nasir Jones), Statik Selektah, 9th Wonder w/ Mr. Banner, and MORE!! I can sense the salivation, so by all means hit play and enjoy and we shall be back at it BOTH on the airwaves and online at our regular time next week!! Have a beautiful weekend!! One Love!!

Two official weeks into the New Year, and things seem to have been going loco right out of the gate for everyone across the globe. But as we had mentioned before in a previous post, the HHHS has been and will always continue to give you all a weekly 3-hour fix of aural sustenance and entertainment to get your mind off the many stresses that you may see or read. This week’s “official” season premiere features a new installment of Diamonds in the Rough, a special tribute edition of the Halftime Hip Hop Mixtape for the late great Mr. Teddy Pendergrass (which you can stream in its entirety down below), the first installment of “The Leak” of 2010 featuring HiPNOTT Records 2010 Takeover Vol. 1 Mixtape, the first “Starting Line Up Countdown” of 2010 as well with “L. Boogie in Wondaland” Loren Moore gunning for the #1 spot for the new year, plus new music from The KnuX, Tanya Morgan, Basic Vocab, and more. Also, WUOG News Correspondent and official member of the HHHS Team, James Brierton, giving you the latest developments in Haiti and more on this week’s “Word on the Street.” Sounds like a jam-packed show right? Well it very much is, but hit play to see for yourself. Enjoy the 3-day weekend and in the words of a certain talk show host, “Take care of yourself and each other.” But if that’s not enough, I say to you to remember that life is always a blessing, never a curse, embrace it always!! One Love!!

It was indeed on this first Friday of the Spring Semester 2010, but we definitely supplied more than enough heat for the listeners on the 1st HHHS of the year (and the decade). This week featured a fresh new installment of Diamonds in the Rough which included a couple of tracks from HHHS affiliate HiPNOTT Records, upcoming project (”HiPNOTT Records 2010 Takeover” dropping on January 11th) as well as fresh music from the “Swagga Black Country Queen” and winner of this month’s Perfect Attendance Richelle L. Brown, and the Youngest 1’s reppin the N.O.L.A. Plus, a couple of special surprises and the unexpected that you can only expect on the HHHS. We’ll be back at it again same time, same place, and same station. Til then. stay warm and enjoy the rest of the weekend!! One Love!!

An Aural Taste Test from the Far East

Posted by: hhhs
Jan 02 2010 7:58 pm

This deserved a post all its own.  As a bonus, fellow Wuogger and HHHS affiliate, Sean Polite a.k.a. “The Grand Polizzle” DJ S.O.S. will be part of a gorgerific trinity (himself, Jamie Diamond, and Miranda Lee) to bring the listeners an aural buffet of Japanese music on a show currently titled “Beasts from the East” (subject to change) coming Jan 2010, BUT, he wanted to give the masses a nice sneak preview, (a taste test if you will) of what you can expect from the show. What you’re about to hear is again only a sample, but if you dig it, you can contact the hosts at beasts@wuog.org and be sure to have your FM dial right here on the WU 90.5 and the internets on wuog.org/live. The show officially has our co-sign and seal of approval and don’t be surprised if you hear of a future HHHS and Beasts collaboration. (Hint, Hint)

2010 It’s A New Year, It’s a New Day

Believe that and word to Red Cafe!! 2009 was indeed a year for the ages. A lot of ups, a few downs, and a number of moments that had people like “What the Funk?!” But nonetheless, the HHHS has always been right here to supply the masses with a weekly dose of urban aural sustenance and entertainment, and even on New Year’s Eve. To end off the last year of the first decade of the 21st Century, we counted down the top 50 artists that made major noise on the HHHS in 2009 with a few extra goodies here and there. A premiere from a highly respected duo, and a special phone interview from a Hip Hop legend, and of course counting down the last hours of 2009. It is the Halftime Hip Hop Yearbook NYE Special filled with close to 7 hours of music.

WUOG will be back to our regular programming starting Jan. 7th with a slew of new faces, new shows, and more!! And of course, the HHHS will continue to be the WU’s Urban Music Institution with our “season” premiere on Jan. 8th. Lastly, I personally would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the HHHS, and very much appreciative of the love. It’s nothing but mutual from my heart to yours and 2010 will be taken to another level. I promise you that. Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies and gents and STAY WARM!!! One Love!!
