And no, we’re not talking about the television show(s). The weekend has finally arrived where the ones that birthed us and shaped us into the young whippa-snappers that we are today invade our airwaves and show us “young folks how they used to get down back in the day.” Of course, I’m talking about Parents Weekend here at the WU, and day 1 did not disappoint. No long description this time around, let the music and parents speak for themselves. Be sure to tune in all weekend long for a major dose of aural sustenance fed to you all by our Parents and we’ll be back to regularly scheduled program on Sunday night at Midnight. Last thing, next week, the HHHS Presents TRIPLE OVERTIME where we will be kicking off a major month for a live music both on-campus and downtown and an opportunity for the listeners to get their hands on music, passes, and more for everyone’s favorite price, FREE-NADA-NINE (not a cent more, not a cent less), so be sure to have your FM dial and Interwebs on 90.5 and wuog.org/live. Enjoy the weekend!! One Love!!

Hear Ye’! Hear Ye’! Here on the day March 19th of 2010, we bear witness to the sixth installment of “The Graffiti Sessions” with intention of bringing the ladies to the forefront (and no we are not talking about free admission and drinks into the club before 11PM on a Friday night). In recognition and celebration of Women’s History Month, Vol. 6 was deemed as FEMINENERGY: QUEENS FIRST and the Queens definitely represented in a major way. This go ’round there were five ladies, 3 in physical form and 2 in spiritually aural essence that came through the Institution to set it off. Major shout-outs and love to  “The Multidimensional Inferno Queen,” lOracle Fire, “The Queen of the Spotlight” Molly B., “The Space Age Galactic Queen” Qurious, “The Wise and Inspiring Teenage Queen” Monay, and “The Swagga Black Country Queen” Richelle L. Brown for being apart of this installment, and please believe that this will NOT be the last time we do this! In between the live performances, the residential “Smooth Operator” and 1/3 of the 3-Headed Beast from the East, DJ S.O.S. provided the feminine aural sustenance and as always James Brierton provided the latest news. But other than that, it was definitely a Woman’s World this week, so just hit play and let it ride. Next week, WUOG will be celebrating the ones that brought us into this world (and always claimed that they can take us out too), our parents, all weekend long, and we’ll have a couple of surprises in store that you have to tune in to see the unveiling of these surprises. In the meantime, enjoy the first official weekend of the Spring!! One Love!!

XXL SB2K10 ILL Edition

Posted by: hhhs
Mar 13 2010 7:11 pm

6 Hours! SIX HOURS!!! We could just end it off with that, and go on to the next one but that wouldn’t necessarily be a good look so here’s the real. We wanted to pull out all the stops for this week, before classes resume next week as well as do something real B.I.G. (Word to Christopher Wallace) for the folks still in town for Spring Break. So, an XXL edition of the HHHS was the answer. Kicking things off with The Leak of Trav Williams’ latest collabo project, Better Late Than Never, with production from Moonchild in its entirety, an extended edition of “Diamonds in the Rough” featuring Illlogic, Laws, GhostWridah, Al Great, Heather Victoria, and MUCH MUCH MORE!! Plus, we had the distinct honor of having Gainesville’s own T-NUTZ & DJ PANIC swing by to spit the knowledge of the scene back in the Ville as well as premiering the lead single from T-NUTZ debut solo album I.P.P. (It’s Past Personal) and a double play from Strange Music Group’s own Krizz Kaliko. AND, Screenwriter Alonzo Anderson stopped by to talk about his upcoming film StepSisters, and any fraternity/sorority steppers that are interested in being a part of the movie can do so by clicking here. Last and certainly not least, arguably the hardest working MC in 2009, Queens, New York’s own K. Sparks, came through the halls to reflect on his incredible work ethic last year that lead him to release numerous records and his plans for not slowing down anytime soon in the year 2K10 (A Day in the Life is out now and a remix contest is already going on for the project as well). That’s not even to mention the new music that came through the pipeline, the Starting Line Up Countdown, and the revealing of next week’s sixth installment of “The Graffiti Sessions.” Okay, that’s enough convincing, so go ahead and hit play. The WU will be back to regular programming Sunday Night at Midnight (Don’t forget to push your clocks forward) and we’ll be back at it next week at our regular time for FEMINENERGY: QUEENS FIRST!!!

After a two week vacation with a trip to Seizers’ Palace and witnessing the second coming of the nWo, we stepped back to our regular order of operations, but it was very far from regular this week. A slew of new music was featured from the likes of Reflection Eternal, Murs & 9th Wonder, Little Brother, B.o.B & J. Cole, and even the return from HHHS Alumnus Big K.R.I.T. And speaking of returns, Giovonni Pratt returned to the Institution to deliver a sneak peek into his next project The  Scarecrow Theory from his group the U.B.C. (Umbrella Black Corporation) set to drop digitally on March 12th.

Elsewhere this week, there was a fresh new installment of “Diamonds in the Rough” featuring BOOGNIGHTS, Kandid McFly, Basic Vocab, K. Sparks (who just released his official HiPNOTT Records debut “A Day in the Life”), and recent Graffiti Sessions performer,  P.O. “The Priceless One.” Also, residential “Word on the Street” correspondent, James Brierton, brought in the weekly news update from……Have to listen in and see. The WU is officially on Spring Break Radio until March 14th, but count on the HHHS to be on THIS Friday night!! But in the meantime, enjoy the rest of the weekend, to those that are traveling, be safe to and from your destination and a relaxing Spring Break!!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: To clear up any confusion or rumors, WUOG 90.5FM is not going anywhere; however, there are proposed budget cuts that could very well possibly cease operations of our sister station WUGA 97.9FM as well as other esteemed institutions and organizations. Both WUOG and WUGA have always served the purpose of providing the Classic City an alternative to mainstream radio, and we would be saddened if these budget cuts do come into fruition. With that said, WUOG will do what we can to help support the cause in the coming days, but in the meantime, you can visit their Facebook page, donate money, or write your own legislature to voice your opinion.

Nappy Roots Interview

Mar 04 2010 10:28 pm

After an almost a 3 year absence, “AwNaw” them country boyz of Nappy Roots made a triumphant return to the WU. Skinny Deville & Fishscales sit down to talk about what all have the group have been up to since late 2007 when they first graced our airwaves on the HHHS, including their major involvement in the community most recently performing a benefit concert along with Colt Ford and The Rattlers at the 40 Watt with all proceeds going toward the Boys and Girls Club of Athens. On the music side, they speak on gearing up for the follow-up album to 2008’s critically-acclaimed album “The Humdinger,” entitled “The Pursuit of Nappyness” (set for this Summer) and premiering a promo single from the project. And prior to “The Pursuit,” they are set to release their next mixtape with DJ Greg Street entitled “Nappy University,” set to be release on April 20th.
