Like we do around this time, all week long people from the community (UGA and Athens alike) invade the WU and take over our airwaves all for a good cause for a lil somethin called Seize the Airwaves. And for the HHHS, we wanted to do something a bit different this semester by opening up the institution doors to any and ALL artists to donate to perform, with all proceeds going to Campus Kitchen. In addition to that, the familia Mad Marv of The Independustry sweetened the deal by shooting a video for an artist that donates at least $50 to Campus Kitchen with full-on promotion on his part. Could it get any better than that? Actually, yes. MOVII returned to the HHHS bringing along J.O.N. and his Diversity Music Group team and along with QUEEN, we touched on their recent trip to Cincinnati and just about all that went down. And we even dropped some newness courtesy of Jamie Charoen and Tess Henley as well as Young $crilla & Prohaize wanting to hang on to the #1 spot for the third week in a row. And speaking of Prohaize, next week, he alongside Profound, Hannah Washington, and Mic-Audio will be part of a major move forward as we bring to you our first Halftime Hip Hop Concert at Georgia Tech’s Under the Couch. So, next time, you hear us, we’ll be invading ATL and wreckin some…you know what! Haha! One Love!!

Oh and as a bonus, we got a couple of Seize shifts for your ears. First up, you got Robert Miller giving you an extra dose of hip hop and last but not least DJ Pochantas tag-teaming her hour with some awkward and embarrassing stories in between the music.

During Odd Man Out, the WU’s residential specialty show where it’s all about aural Feminenergy, we had the honor and pleasure of having one of the 50 artists of 2012 Kendra Morris along with tourmate/best friend Julia Haltigan (can’t forget about Taco) come through for an hour long live performance where they talked about everything from the BabeBox, treasure trolls, and yes, even Poop. But they managed to sneak in some songs in between all that. Hahah. You just gotta hear it all for yourself, but guaranteed that you’re in for another aural treat to get you through the week. Enjoy!

V-I-I, put them together and you get the roman numeral for 7. The number 7 does have a bit of significance, specifically 2013 marks the 7th “season” so to speak of the current administration of the Urban Music Institution and with the Spring semester in full swing this week, we had more than music to give to the masses for the “spring premiere.” An extended edition of Diamonds in the Rough featuring DJ Vadim, 2 Player Co-Op, Kris Menace, Cooly Wright, AB, Aviva & The Flying Penguins, Ali Doodle, and Yoeshi Roberts, Krystale looking to go 2 for 2 on The Starting Line-Up Countdown, and we had the familia LMJ to drop a few premieres from his upcoming XXV project dropping next month. Plus some bonus content with a mini interview with Aviva and Ali Doodle and the long overdue live performance from MAD AXES who are celebrating their album release this weekend. We go back to our regular slot of 9PM next week with the return of The Independustry and more surprises to announce. 2013 is already shaping up to be a year for the ages.

2012-640x250

2012 has been a year to remember for the Urban Music Institution of the WU. We’ve had the opportunity to take our movement outside of the WU and into the UGA/Classic City community such as Snelling Dining Hall, Apt. 13, New Earth Music Hall, Memorial Hall, Tate Plaza and the West Broad Market Garden. And along the way during those 365 days, we have also had the pleasure of connecting with SO many artists, DJs, producers, promoters, management, etc. So as we had to say sayonara to the year that marked 40 years of the WU being in existence, we brought in the new year the best way we knew how, counting down the Top 50 artists that made noise on the HHHS in 2012. Something we like to call our Halftime Hip Hop Yearbook: Class of 2012. Believe us when we say that there are MORE than these 50 artists that we’ve connected with and have a special place in our Hearts, but we would’ve been going on all day and night long. Haha. But, just hit the play button below and check who made our list.

And no more than 5 days later, we bring to you the 1st HHHS of 2013 filled with the 1st Diamonds in the Rough of the year featuring Headnodic, LaLa J, Numonics, Arima Ederra, Shae Money, Scotty, Victorious Conde, Rochelle Jordan, Tanya Denise, Laurin Talese, Chill Moody, Katy B., and Mecca: 83, a new #1 on The Starting Line-Up Countdown, and some other jams to get you going strong in the new year which totals about 9 hours worth of content to hold you over til next Friday. Til then….Happy New Year and One Love!!

12/21/12 marked “the end of the world” as we know it according to the Mayan calendar. While some may have stocked up on food and water, others may have wyld out completely doing Lord knows what, we just kept it as business as usual as we intended to regardless if the Moon decided to come crashing down or whatever was supposed to happen. For our Halftime Hip Hop Holiday Special, first we did an exclusive premiere of two highly anticipated projects, one coming from Sonny Bamboo, Hemi, & Ness Lee collectively known as ATLien Workshop with their First Contact mixtape, and the second from Miss Joanna Levesque a.k.a. JoJo with her 2nd mixtape Agape which is Greek for “unconditional love,” a fresh edition of Diamonds in the Rough featuring Apollo Brown & Guilty Simpson, The Tay, Supastition, J57, Kat Dahlia, Freddie Joachim, Myth Syzer, Mont Brown, and Roses Gabor, Snow Tha Product looking for #1 for fourth time on The Starting Line-Up Countdown, premieres from Skinny-C, Hezekiah, Freeway and eMC, and a block of holiday jams courtesy of Tracy Cruz, Atira, MJ, Jamie Charoen, Jessi Teich, Beanz N Kornbread, Jhene Aiko, Karma Lingo, Apple Jac, and much more. So, in total, you got a little bit under 5 hours worth of music to get you through the holiday weekend. We’ll be back at it next Friday, but in the meantime, whatever holiday you celebrate (or not), we wish you ALL Happy Holidays and be safe! Til then, One Love!!
