Matter of Jazz – 16 January 2011
The first Matter of Jazz episode of 2011 consisted of a fiery set beginning off with highly orchestrated cuts from the Modern Jazz Quartet (joined by the New York Chamber Symphony) and Stan Getz (arranged by Michel Legrand!) and gradually meandering through a smooth Trane/Elvin ballad, the kinetic fusion of Barry Miles, and the rhythmic inventiveness of Herbie Hancock’s mid-60s quartet, among other diversions.
